Living in the moment…!!!
Road Trip with my kid
Beach View from the hotel balcony
Yes, you read it right…!!! This time the trip was an unplanned one, with my 2-year-old kid.
It was 7 am and it suddenly sunk in, I am going to miss my team outing yet again this year…?
Next one hour, the clock was ticking really slow and as soon as Abhisek woke up, I asked him, “Can we drive to Mandarmani tomorrow ?”
He was dumbstruck,” You mean tomorrow with Vihaan? What about the bookings ?”
I had honestly not thought about the bookings part but was sure something would work out. My last moment impulsive decision was wholeheartedly accepted by my team and they figured out a room for me in the same resort.
The Road Trip
So the next morning at around 9 am, we started for our 4 hours drive to cover 185 km road journey in our Honda Amaze (papa car as per my son). By now most of my travel kits are always ready, so packing bags was not much of a fuss. Please check out my complete bag packing tips when traveling with kids in my earlier post A Trip to Darjeeling with my 10-month-old
Mandarmani is a seaside resort village in the state of West Bengal, lies in East Midnapore district, at the northern end of the Bay of Bengal, and a favorite weekend getaway for Kolkatians.
The drive for the first lap till Nandakumar is good, with improved road conditions. We could cover the first 87 km in around 2 hours, however, it took us 2 hours to cover the next lap of 66 km till Chaulkhola. The roads are bumpy with construction going on for the road extension. The road after Chaulkhola to Mandarmani is an absolute treat to eyes. Narrow stretches of roads with lush greenery and small water bodies leading to the resorts and beaches are beautiful.
The Beach
We checked in to Hotel Arya Resort at around 2pm, where my team had already arrived the earlier night. Mandarmani is a preferred destination over Digha and Puri, other popular beaches among Bengalis, since its less crowded and has good spread of resorts offering private beaches at a reasonable rate. It had been a drivable beach until some years ago, and we really miss that part now. We hit the beach after finishing off with our lunch, Vihaan had a good time running around the beach and playing with sand until the sunset.
#TravelWithKids Tip11 — Carrying small 200 ml milk tetra packs are of great convenience with kids. Tetra packs do not need refrigeration until opened and can be stored for longer.
There is very little to do here once it gets dark, no marketplace as such for travelers to spend the evening. Later in the evening, we had the team party on the open terrace offered by the resort.
We could not hit the beach again the next morning since the tides were pretty high so after a good breakfast, it was time to bid adieu and set for the journey back home.
